Google Play Music gets more Material Design tweaks in latest update

Google Play Music scored an update today, but
don't get too excited, as it's a relatively minor
one. Most of what's new are slight design
tweaks that bring it up to speed with Material
Design and away from its previous look.
Along with some general design tweaks, the
artist, genre, and album pages have gotten a bit
of a redesign, and you'll also find a change in the
look of the slide-in drawer on the left of the app
as well as small changes to the way artist info
and album artwork are displayed. The orange
background at the top of the page has also been
extended downward slightly to replace the gray
tabbed look of the previous version.
The update is rolling out now, but in usual
Google Play fashion, we're seeing it on some
devices sooner than others.

10 Essential Tips To Increase Android’s Performance

As it is with any other desktop or mobile
operating system, the performance of your
Android OS will start to diminish after you use it
for some time. Mobile operating systems are
supposed to be lighter and faster to keep up with
our need to be on the move, yet still give us
access to everything. Want to have the best of
both worlds? Then, it’s time to do some
housekeeping.
If you have noticed that your Android phones
performance have been ‘slowing down’,
particularly after you’ve been loading it up with
tons of Android apps (we don’t blame you) from
the Google Play store, we have a few tips to
share with you.

With just a few tweaks and changes, you’d
probably be able to breathe life into your Android
specifically those that have been updated to
Android 4.0 and above.

1. Know Your Device

It is important that you learn about the
capabilities and drawbacks of your phone. Don’t
overburden your phone with resource-hungry apps
which would otherwise degrade your phone’s
performance at your expense.

2. Update Your Android

If you haven’t updated your Android phone to the
latest firmware, you should. Google brings great
improvements to each new release of the
Android operating system, including updates that
ensure stability, higher performance speed and
connectivity along with other user-friendly new
features.
Tablets can also run on ICS and Jelly Bean now;
you should be able to update it until Android 4.1
Jelly Bean via System updates (Check under
‘About phone’).

3. Remove Unwanted Apps.

Every app you install in your phone take some
storage space and runs some background
processes. The more storage space occupied or
the more background processes running on your
phone, the slower your phone’s performance.
Don’t install apps you hardly use. Keep only the
apps that you need and if you have got an app
that isn’t really useful, you can uninstall or
disable it .

4. Disable Unnecessary Apps

‘Performance assistant’ was introduced in
Android ICS to help you disable apps that you
don’t need . Disabling apps is different from
uninstalling apps – uninstallation remove
application files from the phone but no file is
removed/deleted when you disable it. These
disabled apps are not shown on the home screen
or app tray but you can re-enable them for use
whenever you need them.

5. Update Apps

You should regularly update your phone’s
installed apps from Google Play. Try to get
updates your apps when they are available in
Google Play. Developers fix bugs and add
features in new released versions of apps.
Updated apps perform better and faster , and will
less likely crash your phone.

6. Use High-Speed Memory Card

The memory card is the storage space of your
phone. Phones with low internal memory can get
a boost from high-capacity memory cards for
maximum storage space. But it adds not only
capacity but also speed to the mix. You can get
between 2GB to 32GB worth of storage space to
support high speed read/write operations. Always
go for memory cards of Class 6 or Class 10 for
your Android phone if you seek performance for
your phone.

7. Keep Fewer Widgets

Widgets are not apps, which only run once you
choose to activate them. No, widgets are always
running in the background ; they are active all the
time. While some Android users use it to keep
track of the weather, and their important dates,
others use widgets like ‘Extended controls’ for
quick access for essential configurations such as
switching Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or their GPS on or off.
They do have their uses but bear in mind that
having too many of them running on your
homescreen will cause your device’s
performance to slow down.

8. Avoid Live Wallpapers

You must be loving Android’s live wallpaper
feature. Phones (from different manufacturers)
come with different live wallpapers but you
should know that live wallpapers that are badly
made will need more CPU cycles to run, thus
draining the battery faster . Everytime you
activate the home screen, you run not only your
apps but also your live wallpaper.

9. Stop Syncing

Sync is a very good feature which synchronizes
your data with Google servers. Keeping sync on,
you can get notifications whenever new mail
comes in or when you get new notifications or
updates for apps. To do this, it does a refresh at
every preset interval (e.g. it checks your mail
every 5 minutes for new incoming mail), and this
will eat into your android’s performance for other
activities.
You can keep Sync off for unrequired services or
only have it on when you need to transfer or
upload materials to Google servers.

10. Turn Off Animations

What animations? Well, if you haven’t noticed,
your phone screen actually fades out and in as
you switch from one task to the other. To see
this in action Go to Settings > Developer Options
> Window Animation Scale > Animation scale
10x . Then choose Window Animation Scale again
to see the fade in effect in ‘slow-mo’.
When you choose Animation off , the screen just
snaps to position without animation. You can
also turn off Transition Animation Scale in the
same way. If you are a heavy user, you’d
probably notice that your Android performs faster
with all animations off.

Bonus:

Use Task Killer/Manager
Download any free Task Killer apps or Task
Managers from Google Play. Some of the good
ones are Advanced Task Killer and Super Task
Killer Free. Use a task killer to kill background
processes and other apps that you don’t need or
you don’t use.
Set options to automatically kill unnecessary apps
(based on your selections) after every set period
of time. Some of the examples include Update
Manager (updates don’t come every minute/hour)
or any manufacturer-installed app which you
don’t require.

Root Your Android

As Android is built on the Linux kernel, like any
other OS, it also can be rooted. Rooting your
Android gives you administrator level access on
your phone , which means that you can uninstall
the apps that came with your phone but may not
be what you want to use.
You can then flash it with custom ROMs that
may be a better fit to your job requirements or
personality, or to enhance the performance and
battery life of your phone . You can even update
your phone to the latest OS or updates that
could otherwise be unsupported for your phone
model.
When Not to Root
There are a number of factors against rooting
your Android device; for one thing, most
manufacturers deem your phone warranty voided
if your phone has been rooted . You also need to
know what you are doing to avoid screwing
everything up, beyond repair . This is called
‘bricking’ a.k.a. turning your phone into a useless
brick. So think it through before you use this
method to enhance the performance of your
Android.

Use Lightweight Background Apps

Everyone enjoys listening to music but imagine
how much memory the music player app requires
to play a whole album for you. It’s the same with
other types of background apps you may have.
Use lightweight apps for these purposes , e.g.,
you can install a music player that requires 1 MB
installation space (and thus less RAM too) than
the ones requiring 10 MB or more.
This way, your phone will have more free
memory, boosting your phone’s battery and
performance .
Conclusion
If you follow the above-given suggestions, tips
and tweaks will help in making your Android
faster and smoother while in use.

Which App on Your Phone Is Most Embarrassing?

Alright folks, it’s time to spill the beans. We all
have apps on our phones that were not
particularly proud of, and now is the time to get
it off your chest. What is the most embarrassing
app on your smartphone?

Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini is now the world’s thinnest smartphone with a 4.7mm body!

Last year, OPPO released its super thin OPPO R5
smartphone which was less than 5mm thin. Later
came an even thinner phone, the Vivo X5Max
this time from another Chinese manufacturer
which boasted of a 4.8mm thin profile. A few weeks ago, Coolpad’s Ivvi had released a
teaser hinting at the launch of a phone which
could possibly be the world’s thinnest
smartphone yet. And now, the company has
finally unveiled such a device, the all new
Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini which boasts of a thickness
of just 4.7mm .
Unlike the above mentioned two devices which
feature top of the line high end specs, the Ivvi
K1 Mini will be a lower mid-range smartphone
with decent specs. The company has put in a
BABY Skin back texture on the device which does
not attract fingerprints. For hardware, the Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini comes
with a Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core
processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM which is
probably expandable. The phone will feature a
4.7-inch display which we expect will have a
resolution of 720p. At the back, there will be an
8MP camera, while up front there is a 5MP
shooter. The company says that the phone will
come with a lot of camera centric features like
beauty shots and intelligent algorithms to capture
the best possible image. Despite its low
placement, the phone will come with 4G LTE
network support. Given its super thin profile, the
phone can only accommodate a 1800mAh battery
inside. Also, the Ivvi K1 Mini has an intelligent
remote control feature which allows the user to
control almost anything at home including air
conditioners, washing machines, televisions and
many more appliances.
The Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini will be available for
sale in just white color at the moment for a price
tag of 1299 Yuan which comes to around $200.
The company has added that there will be more
colors to choose from in the next few weeks.

11 BEST TIPS TO INCREASE YOUR INTERNET SPEED ON YOUR PC

Technology has gotten to a state where
internet lets you access gigabytes of data at
a time. However, it depends on your
internet connection, whether it makes a
proficient use of this opportunity or not.
Majority of the internet users report and
criticize a slow moving connection,
especially while accessing weighty media
sites. Your service provider assigns you with
a specific data access limit, which depends
on your payment package. The fact, on the
other hand, is that you can efficiently utilize
this limit to attain a maximum output and
increase your internet speed .
Include following into your checklist, while
looking to speed up your slow internet
connection.
Check Internet Usage
Sometimes there are live applications
installed on your computer, which connect
their selves to the internet out of your
knowledge. There is a simple command to
check out what programs are currently
linked to the internet, slowing down its
speed
Press Windows key and type cmd in the
Windows Start Search
In the search results, right click cmd and
choose to Run as administrator
In command prompt, give the command
netstat ?b 5 > activity.txt and hit Enter key
Hold on for a while, so that the command
could create a file on your computer
Close down the Command Prompt
Press Windows key and type activity.txt in
the Start Search
Open activity.txt file from the Search result
and view it thoroughly
How to Check What Programs are
Consuming Internet
This file shows you the programs and
applications currently linked up to the open
network. If these do not have a significant
task to do, you can close them down to save
your internet speed.
Monitor Network Bandwidth
You may not infer the intensity of internet
usage by certain applications, from the
above noted process. You can monitor this
usage through you Task Manager, and then
perform the actions accordingly
Right click your Taskbar and click the
option stating Start Task Manager
In the Task Manager window, go to the
Networking tab
Here you can view the processes consuming
internet speed
Locate processes in below section with a
higher percentage, under Network
Utilization column
Identified processes can be look up in
Processes tab and closed down by clicking
End Process
Monitor Network Bandwith to See Programs
Causing Internet to Slow
Cookies, Cache, Browser History
Each web browser tends to fill up with
temporary data to maintain a surfing
session. Make it a routine to clean out such
data from your concerned web browsers.
You can find out the different ways of doing
so in each web browsers.
Press Windows key and type Internet
Options in the Windows Start Search
Open the result to view Internet Options
window
On General tab, point to the Browsing
history section and click Settings button
On Temporary Internet Files tab of Website
Data Settings window, type 0 as Disk space
to use
Now go to the History tab, and specify a
minimum number of days to keep pages in
history
In the same window on Caches and
databases tab, uncheck Allow website
caches and databases
You can also reduce the cache file size in
MBs to notify your self
Optimize Internet Settings
Nagle-Algorithm
By default, each system has this feature
activated. This waits for the data packets
until they fill up and then sends them to the
network. You can find the steps to disable
Nagle-Algorithm and instruct your system to
send the packets as soon as demanded.
Clear/Flush DNS Cache
Your DNS Cache regularly stores the IP
addresses of the web servers of the
webpages you view on daily basis. If the
address of a specific server changes before
the entry saved in your DNS cache, you are
likely to see a 404 page. That means, you
would not be able to access that page until
your update the cache. This at times, also
slowdowns the speed of your internet. The
best way to avoid this issue happening to
you is to regularly clearing DNS cache. Try
the following tips to clear/Flush DNS cache:
Press Win Key + R to open Command Prompt
In the command prompt screen, type
IPCONFIG / FlushDNS and press enter
If the command is executed successfully,
you will see a message stating ?successfully
flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.?
Why to Flush DNS Cache
Reservable Bandwidth
In an atmosphere where multiple users tend
to access a single network point, servers
usually set a limited Reservable Bandwidth
for each of the users. Moreover, the packet
scheduler reserves 20 percent of the
bandwidth by default, even if it is disabled.
To reduce this limit to zero,
Press Start key and type gpedit.msc in
Windows Start Search
Right click the search result and choose to
Run as administrator
Go to the QoS Packet Scheduler through the
following route
Computer Configuration \ Administrative
Templates \ Network \ QoS Packet Scheduler
You will see a policy named Limit
Reservable Bandwidth
Double click this policy and just click to
Enable it
Now in the Options section next to
Bandwidth limit (%), reduce the number to
0
Click OK to save your changes and close
down Local Group Policy Editor
Enable and Limit Reserveable Bandwith on
Windows
After applying all these processes, restart
your computer once for your system to take
all the effects properly. You will now
definitely observe an enhanced internet
speed than before.
The speed of your internet connection is
also dependable to the following mentioned
points. Do not overlook these points to
increase the internet speed.
Prefer Ethernet
It is always advised to prefer Ethernet or
wired one over the wireless connection to
the internet. A wireless connection has the
odds of broken coverage or weak signals.
Moreover, use good quality wires and cables
to be connected as it contributes towards
the speed of your internet.
Internet Service Provider
It is quite conceivable that the slackened
internet speed may have resulted due to
external issues. Confirm from your internet
service provider (ISP) and make sure your
actual speed matches the one promised by
your ISP.
Upgrade Router
It is true that the speed of your internet is
directly proportionate to your modem or
router, to some extent. Upgrading the
modem or router to a newer version would
positively influence the speed of your
internet.
Multiple Devices
While using internet through your PC, try to
disconnect other unused devices connected
to the internet router. Such devices are
smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and other
devices that are usually left, connected even
if not used.
Clean Connections
Regularly examine your modem and routers
to make sure the cables are seated in a nice
and clean manner. Be advised to maintain a
dust free environment near your devices.
Blow out the dust from connectors and
preserve proper ventilation around all
electric components to avoid heating up.
